Edwin

edwin the teddybear is not a teddybear. what i thought was this stuffed animal's name, is actually a label from japan.
the bear was a souvenir from japan, where edwin is a big thing.
this video best shows who edwin really is:
if you got curious (because of the cute teddy or the cool brad), check out one of these ( or why not both) shops in vienna:
www.arnolds.at
www.e35shop.com
Jakob (Arnold's) and Sby (e35) will show you edwin (the jeans not the teddy).

go went gone
For what is time? Who can easily and briefly explain it? Who even in thought can comprehend it, even to the pronouncing of a word concerning it? But what in speaking do we refer to more familiarly and knowingly than time? And certainly we understand when we speak of it; we understand also when we hear it spoken of by another. What, then, is time? If no one ask of me, I know; if I wish to explain to him who asks, I know not. Yet I say with confidence, that I know that if nothing passed away, there would not be past time; and if nothing were coming, there would not be future time; and if nothing were, there would not be present time. Those two times, therefore, past and future, how are they, when even the past now is not; and the future is not as yet? But should the present be always present, and should it not pass into time past, time truly it could not be, but eternity. If, then, time present — if it be time — only comes into existence because it passes into time past, how do we say that even this is, whose cause of being is that it shall not be — namely, so that we cannot truly say that time is, unless because it tends not to be?

african lace
when it came to africa, my omniscient history teacher said, "well, africa, i have to admit, i cannot tell you much about it, i don't really know whats going on there"
actually, africa cannot be too strange to austria, as they have a long business-relationship in the textile-industry. the traditional african clothes are made of austrian lace. the lace goes with the "Völkerkundemuseum"(Vienna) also quite well!

a storyteller, this juergen teller

I’m spontaneous, my camera is not. But why take photos of a photographer? I found he looks like a different version of ewan mcgregor. Last week, there was a talk with juergen teller at the university of applied arts in Vienna. In a small gallery an exhibition of him just opened. Anyway, it was quite interesting what he said. Or what he did not say.
It seems he likes his new role as photo-columnist for Zeit (german newspaper), which he uses for mind-exhibition and diary. Some like it, some don’t. if you are interested in how bad juergen teller is, wait for his next project called “literature about juergen teller”, which consists of all these reader’s opinions of Zeit. Yes, that’s his humor. No wonder he left Germany, germans are serious.
Juergen tells us about his first nude shoot– it was Vivienne Westwood. Her skin and her. Now that I think back, it seems to me, that nudity must be a big thing.

Charlotte rampling, old friend of juergen and beloved motive for him, never undressed in front of his camera till he got nothing less than the louvre for setting. Impress to undress I would say. Naked in the Louvre. Charlotte rampling - I have to google her, juergen mentioned her just too often.
So, you are a photographer, your job is to dig into big personalities and squeeze it on a small photo. Quite exhausting. Juergen relaxes by rebuilding his own big personality in self portraits. Preferably naked, to see the impact of skin and a womb, like a lanscape.
How I got to know juergen; through his ads for marc jacobs ( sorry, I didn’t know that clothes annoy you actually, juergen), trashy flash, cold white and unnatural settings, weird people. when I think of his photos, I think of grunge. When asked which soundtrack would fit his photography, he suggested nirvana, sung by his son.
Among all these funny stories, juergen can be serious in a way. Some photos are daring, as they are quite personal. Although he adds, that he imagines and changes reality in his photos - so who knows

why design?
when i was 5, my mother interviewed a man in black with glasses. i found him quite impressive and despite my usual liveliness and chattiness, i didn't dare to open my mouth the whole interview long. well, finally i dared to say something, only to apologize after for having talked so much
15 years later, vienna design week. konstantin grcic talks about himself and his work. i found him not as scary but still impressive.
